With the 2024-25 NFL regular season about to end, the focus of teams at the bottom of the standings are turning towards prospects to draft ahead of next season. One of the top names those teams are linked with is Colorado Buffaloes superstar QB Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders for his part has been unofficially linking himself with the likes of the New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders. Both teams may have stunted their chances at picking him at the top of the draft, but they have some respite when looking at the other teams who could pick ahead of them.
The New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns have a plan set at quarterback for next season. That leaves the Tennessee Titans as one who could upset the apple cart. However, the QB’s father, Deion Sanders, will likely intervene if a team who do not meet their interests tries to draft the Buffaloes QB.
The conversation now has turned to the possibility of his teammate Travis Hunter going number one overall. However, NFL Insider Tom Pelissero was speaking on The Rich Eisen Show earlier and gave an interesting take based on his discussions with league personnel.
He added that there was ‘healthy skepticism’ from people around the league about Shedeur Sanders‘ going high in the draft. It is just that the upcoming draft class is weak at the QB position. Therefore, luck seems to have played favorably for the Buffaloes star.
NFL Week 18 to decide Shedeur Sanders’ landing spot
The New York Giants were hotly tipped as the best situation for Shedeur Sanders. Being in the Big Apple along with the New York entertainment landscape was a tantalizing prospect. However, they still need to be in a position to draft him.
Last week’s stellar win over the Indianapolis Colts saw them climb up the table, much to the fury of Giants fans. Their Week 18 matchup could stop that winning run as they will face the Philadelphia Eagles. However, anything is possible, and Drew Locke and the players would prefer to close out their season with a win.
If they do, the Giants could slide down in the Draft. If that happens, the Las Vegas Raiders will jump up and snag the Colorado Buffaloes QB. With the way the Week 18 games are scheduled, all the bottom ranked teams are playing playoff contenders. So, chances of the Giants slipping further are less.
If Tom Pelissero turns out to be right, the Giants and Raiders might not want to draft him. However, it is unknown if the NFL Insider spoke with executives from those teams to come up his assessment. April will show what threads Shedeur Sanders wears next September.
