Since the 2024 season ended on a disappointing note for the Los Angeles Rams, they aim to revitalize the team, mainly the quarterback room. Although Matthew Stafford dismissed the speculations about his future with the team by affirming his return for another season, uncertainty still looms over his head. And if Tom Pelissero were to ask, the possibility of potential trade is quite real.
While it’s undeniable that the Rams have the potential to emerge as Super Bowl contenders in the near future, all they need is to address the obstacles they face along the way. The franchise seems to be growing worried about the quarterback situation, which an NFL Insider reported is becoming a significant concern for them.
While appearing on the Rich Eisen Show on Friday, NFL Insider Pelissero addressed the ongoing headlines concerning Stafford’s future in Los Angeles. Stating that the franchise hasn’t ruled out the option of trade, he reported that the Rams are looking forward to having the veteran quarterback for another campaign.

Having said that, Stafford’s contract extension remains a topic of discussion as his agent Jimmy Sexton, and the Rams are yet to reach a common agreement with a crucial question of whether to make a “multi-year” contract or just a “one-year” chance to see how the season proceeds.
Matthew Stafford’s successor on the horizon
Although both parties have settled to continue for another season, the Rams need to think about the future aka Stafford’s successor. Even if the veteran quarterback signs a multi-year contract, his growing age ought to catch up with him as it has already begun showing signs.
Since they do not have a good draft pick, Pro Football Network has projected them to use a third-round pick to acquire Texas Longhorns signal-caller Quinn Ewers as a potential successor to the 36-year-old. His arm talent and exceptional pedigree could be a great deal for them, especially if they plan to develop him behind Stafford.
Earlier in the season, Ewers was projected to be a first-round pick but after some consistency he showed in the 2024 season, he has dropped to third round. Perhaps all he needs is the right team and guidance to flourish into a top talent in the league that the Rams can provide.
