It was a bittersweet final day of the season for Zay Flowers. Even though the Baltimore Ravens outpowered the Cleveland Browns on the final day of the season to clinch the AFC North and third seed in the conference, he had to watch the entire game on the TV in the doctors’ room after injuring his knee.
Flowers was in a good mood prior to facing the Browns at home in Baltimore. Earlier in the week, the NFL inducted the second-year wideout into the 2024 Pro Bowl. Not only was it his first-ever major individual accolade, but it was the first time a Ravens receiver became a Pro Bowler as well.
Days later the Ravens rocked the Browns 10-35 to win the division and book a playoff spot three years in a row but he wasn’t able to be part of the celebrations as he was with the doctors who evaluated his knee.

It’s not considered a major injury, though there is a real chance he misses next week. If Baltimore takes care of business, he could be back. pic.twitter.com/nRmcETx0IB
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport revealed that Zay Flowers suffered a sprain. Only an MRI will be able to reveal the full extent of his injury. Depending on the severity, the 24-year-old might miss the Ravens’ first playoff game.
How did Zay Flowers injure his knee?
The Ravens took the lead in the first quarter through a Bailey Zappe pick-six return by Ravens Nate Wiggins and nothing major happened until three minutes into the second quarter.
Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson snapped the ball from the Browns 25-yard line and then found Flowers open right before the first down marker. The former first-round pick zigzagged his way through a couple of players before the Browns’ defense brought him down.
The tackles did not appear to be anything out of the ordinary, but Flowers screamed in pain while holding his right knee. Replays showed his right knee hit the hard turf before bouncing off. It didn’t take long for the medical team to converge on the scene and start treatment. However, moments later the Ravens took him out of the game for further evaluation in the medical bay.

From this view you can see his foot gets caught on his teammates leg as the defender contacts his knee from the inside. This creates a mild varus stress which puts stress on the LCL. However, the total varus motion is minimal, his knee flexes which absorbs… pic.twitter.com/eZbfpQLIte
After the game, Ryan Mink of the Ravens asked head coach John Harbaugh for an update on Flowers.
John Harbaugh says he does not have an update on Zay Flowers’ knee injury but it’s something “he has a chance to be OK with.” Will know more after an MRI tomorrow.

Flowers only had one catch in the game for nine yards. In the 2024 season, he racked up 74 receptions for 1059 yards and 4 touchdowns. He has a total of 151 catches for 1917 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns in 33 games for the Ravens since entering the league last season.
Flowers’ injury is also an eye-opener for the Philadelphia Eagles fans who want running back Saquon Barkley to play the final game to secure the single-season rushing yards record. The Eagles are already through to the playoffs and even if Barkley needs a little over 100 yards, risking him on the final day may cost them dearly.
