“It’s insultingly stupid” Twitter explodes upon hearing about the new NFL overtime rules

The NFL overtime rules have been a sore subject for fanbases on the wrong end of them like the Buffalo Bills in 2021 on the Green Bay Packers in 2014. But now, with the new overtime rules, they can be rest assured that a situation like that won’t happen again, sort of.

The official statement is “Both teams will have the opportunity to possess the ball in overtime in the postseason. If the score is tied after each team has possessed the ball, the next score wins. If the team kicking off to start the overtime period scores a safety on the receiving team’s initial possession, the team that kicked off is the winner.”

So what that means is that the sudden death aspect of the NFL overtime that people weren’t entirely happy about still remains. This has left fans split with many feeling that all this new rule does is delay what was happening before and some feeling that it’s actually a good thing.

As is the case with most new things, people tend to not like change because they’re comfortable with what they’re used to. That being said, this was a change that many wanted to happen, but it wasn’t implemented the way people thought it would be. As such, Twitter provided some entertaining responses to the new NFL overtime rule.

Whether or not the new NFL overtime rules will actually work out as planned is yet to be seen. For now, it will only be implemented in the playoffs, meaning if a team does somehow get the raw end of the deal, you can bet that we’ll be in a somewhat similar situation as earlier this year when the Bills lost to the Chiefs.
