“F**k the NFL” – Fans demand a more server punishment for Jack Del Rio for comparing the BLM riots and Capitol breach comments

Washington Commanders’ head coach Ron Rivera fined his defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio $100,000 for his insensitive comments on Friday. Jack compared the U.S. Capitol riots of 2021 to the protest of George Floyd’s murder back in 2020.

The 59-year-old defensive coordinator spoke at a press conference earlier this week and had the stones to compare these events and raise a question that convoluted everyone in the country.

At the press conference, Del Rio was asked to explain his tweet which he posted a few days back. In his tweet, Jack asked why the Geroge Floyd protest wasn’t being treated in the same manner as the Capitol riots.

“I just asked a simple question. Let’s get right down to it,” Del Rio said Wednesday. “What did I ask? A simple question. Why are we not looking into those things — if we’re going to talk about it — why are we not looking into those things? Because it’s kind of hard for me to say, I can realistically look at it, I see the images on TV. People’s livelihoods are being destroyed, businesses are being burned down, no problem.

“And then we have a dust-up at the Capitol. Nothing burned down. And we’re going to make that a major deal. I just think it’s kind of two standards. And if we apply the same standard, and we’re going to be reasonable with each other, let’s have a discussion. That’s all it was. Let’s have a discussion.”

This comment made by Del Rio didn’t sit right with anyone. The Georga Floyd protests were peaceful and were made to stop police brutality and racial discrimination which was still crippling the country. The Capitol riots on the other hand were done by supporters of a political party that were not content with the result of a free and fair election held which resulted in people losing their lives. These two events were in no way of the same category. It was highly inappropriate of Del Rio to compare a peaceful protest to a riot that was deliberately started.

After making this comment, Del Rio did apologize later on Wednesday. However, the Commanders’ front office and head coach still felt the need to punish him. “I want to make it clear that our organization will not tolerate any equivalency between those who demanded justice in the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the actions of those on Jan. 6 who sought to topple our government,” Rivera said. “After reflecting on the situation and circumstances, I have decided to fine coach Del Rio $100,000, which the team will donate to the United States Capitol Memorial Fund.”

Twitter was not happy with Jack Del Rio being slapped with a fine that’s pocket change for him

The $100,000 fine imposed on Del Rio hardly seemed to pacify anyone People were expecting the defensive coordinator to be fired for his comments. NFL Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed was among the people who were expecting a more severe punishment for Del Rio than a mere $100,000 fine. Reed took to Twitter to express his disappointment: “Today, im sick and tired! A dust up! 100,000 is not enough, money ain’t nothing to a person who is recycled through coaching. Its always one, first it was Saban now its Jack to just remind US what it is! Man if u coached by him put your pants on! Its simple right and wrong, Wrong.”
