“He’s one of the most unselfish people,” Jason Licht brushes off potential rift between Bruce Arians and Tom Brady
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going through a period of change within the franchise. Their veteran head coach, Bruce Arians decided to step down from the role and will now take up a role in the front office.
Arians identified Todd Bowles, as his successor and the former defensive coordinator will now lead Tom Brady and co. in the upcoming season. Bruce Arians’ shock retirement came as a surprise especially after Tom Brady decided to unretire from the game a few weeks back.
Jason Licht hailed Bruce Arians’ time as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
There have been widespread speculation whether Bruce Arians stepped down from the role due to his rift with Brady, something which might have grown over the last season. However, Buccaneers general manager, Jason Licht cleared out the air once and for all when he made an appearance on the The Rich Eisen Show, as to what caused the decision.
Speaking on the timeline of Bruce Arians‘ retirement, Licht said that he was looking forward to work with whoever quarterback the franchise would have roped in, if Brady did not make a comeback.
Jason Licht said, “Well, the sense was it was a troublesome … it would have been challenging and more challenging. And Bruce wanted the wanted to make sure everybody was in a good spot, all of his assistance left in that the house was cleaned.”
“…All I gotta say is his dream has been since I’ve known him, when he retires, to leave it to one of his assistants, and you know, where he stands on diversity and inclusion, and to leave it to one of his assistants? In a phenomenal spot.”
“And what better, better spot could it be? You think in the history of the NFL where coaches retired, and it goes to another coach where they don’t, where they have a quarterback like Tom Brady, and a very good roster like we have. So, he’s one of the most unselfish people I know, and that this has been one of his platforms or his major platform since he’s been a coach,” finished off Jason Licht.
There will definitely be people who would want to find points to support their theory of Tom Brady’s apparent role in the retirement decision taken by Bruce Arians, but so far no one associated with the franchise has opened up on such allegations.
