Before becoming one of the hotshots in the world of the NFL, Lurie was a scholar looking for business opportunities in the 1970s. He earned his professional degrees from Clark University and a Master’s degree in psychology from Boston University. Lurie also has a doctorate in social policy from Brandeis University.

After college, Lurie started as an adjunct assistant professor of social policy at Boston University. However, he quit this job and ventured into the film industry, where his grandfather had a commendable footfall. Starting as an executive at General Cinema Company, he eventually ventured further to establish his own production house called Chestnut Hill Productions in 1985. Following this, he did start making a name for himself in Hollywood.

Lurie started showing his interest in expanding the business into sports through his attempt to buy the New England Patriots in 1993. He was a huge fan of Boston sports growing up. While the deal for the Patriots did not work through, he did end up purchasing the Eagles for $195 million in 1994. Today, the Eagles are valued at more than $4.9 billion.
