“This is the Josh Allen rule”: Joe Marino reckons Bills QB Josh Allen is the face of the overtime rule change

The NFL overtime rules have been talked about a lot in recent times, especially after what happened in a couple of playoff games last season. It would be fair to say that it is a sore subject for fans of teams that were affected negatively by it. But now, with the new overtime rules, they ‘might’ not have to face a similar situation again.

The official statement confirming the changes on OT rules stated that both teams will now have the opportunity to possess the ball in overtime in the postseason. “If the score is tied after each team has possessed the ball, the next score wins. If the team kicking off to start the overtime period scores a safety on the receiving team’s initial possession, the team that kicked off is the winner,” the statement read.

“The Bills are definitely the face of the overtime rule”: Joe Marino

So what that means is that the sudden death aspect of the NFL over time that people weren’t entirely happy about still remains. This has left fans split with many feeling that all this new rule does is delay what was happening before while some have stated that it’s actually a good thing.

Talking about the same, Joe Marino had a few things to say during the latest episode of the Locked On Podcast. “I am glad that they did something to change the rules and allowed football teams to possess the ball in overtime. I think that’s a very logical conclusion,” Marino said.

Referring to the divisional round playoff clash last season between the Bills and Chiefs, Marino said, “everyone who watched that game said that Josh Allen deserved an opportunity with the football. I think it’s the right thing to have some change here. It will be interesting to see how overtime will be played,” he added.

The Bills are definitely the face of the overtime rule, despite Matt Ryan not getting his chance, despite Patrick Mahomes not getting his chance, I think Josh Allen not getting his chance inspired a lot of people to get this change,” he further said.
