Lafoga Mailata is an Australian professional American football player. He plays offensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles team. Mailata is 6’8 tall and has shown immense qualities for an offensive tackle while playing Rugby as his earlier sport.
He has come a long way from playing rugby to landing in the biggest American football arena known as the NFL. Jordan Mailata has his nativity from Australia. However, he is the son of a Samoan immigrant, Tupa’i and Maria. The couple landed in Australia where they gave birth to Mailata in Bankstown, Sydney, which is an LGA (Local Government Area) that has a fine concentration of Samoan immigrants.
When Mailata started playing Rugby for the Bankstown Bulls, he was affirmed of his selection and was able to participate in the National Rugby League in Australia. It was when Mailata caught the attention of Ben Rogers, who was a recruitment agent for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, where he was offered an opportunity to join the team.
They offered him the contract of $5000 to play, which was a reserve grade contract keeping in mind his fitness concerns. However, the South Sydney Rabbitohs couldn’t trust his physical abilities to keep up with the pace of rugby league. Later, Mailata declined the contract and fate brought him to the NFL arena.
The NFL executives were thrilled to see Mailata’s rugby-playing videos and invited him to their International Player Pathway Program. The player was new to NFL and only watched Super Bowl matches due to his inclination toward the game. Mailata was sent to the IMG academy to train under coach Aden Durde.
His physical attributes turned to an advantage. Due to that, he was later selected by the Philadelphia Eagles as the 233rd overall pick in the 2018 draft. The multicultural descent player decided to show up each day, however, was left with an unattended rookie season with no games played due to a fracture. He made his first career debut against the Commanders.
