Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have been on somewhat frosty terms since their 2020 NFC Championship loss against Tom Brady and his Buccaneers. Immediately after that loss, Rodgers wanted out of Green Bay but the two sides managed to find a way to stay together.

In the end, the Packers held onto Aaron Rodgers by getting him to agree to one final shot at the Super Bowl in 2021. If it all went well, then he would remain in Green Bay. If not, then he’d find a new team.

Well, the Packers’ season has come and gone and with it, another disappointing playoff loss of Rodgers. This year’s divisional-round loss was possibly the worst of all. Given the circumstances of the 2021 offseason, many are now wondering if Rodgers is not going to commit to the Packers for 2022.

While Rodgers is yet to state where he wants to play, it’s not as black and white as it seemed before. The NFC is considerably weaker than the AFC so it wouldn’t exactly make sense for Rodgers to want out. However, he does also want to actually win a Super Bowl which he hasn’t been able to do in Green Bay since 2010. With this in mind, Kyle Brandt revealed a detail that could keep Rodgers with the Packers.

Kyle Brandt believes Aaron Rodgers needs Davante Adams

In a segment of NFL Network’s ‘Good Morning Football’, Kyle Brandt was quoted saying “He(Aaron Rodgers) used the phrase free agency as a timeline. So, I don’t think it can go into the summer. I think it’s gonna go differently this year and I think we’re gonna know within the week. I think retirement is out of the question, I still see it a lot, I still don’t think he’s retiring no matter what.”

Brandt further added “I think there’s no way he’s playing for the Green Bay Packers if Davante Adams isn’t. There’s no way. Not only because of their relationship but because Adams is good. So, the thing with the tagging looms huge. The question is, if they tag Davante, why wouldn’t Rodgers come back to Green Bay.”

Brandt also added “He claims they made so much progress with the front office, the salary is gonna be huge, the team is gonna be good. If you tag Davante, that sucks for Davante but it’s best for the Packers. So, if for some reason Davante Adams walks, Rodgers is gone. They have to bring Davante back.”

The Packers have a history of not using the franchise tag as they prefer to work out long-term deals. Of course, they would love to do that with Davante Adams too but if they can’t they may have to use the tag on him just to make sure Aaron Rodgers sticks around. Not only that, but the two of them together ensures the Packers remain a Super Bowl contender.
