The Miami Dolphins have hired Mike McDaniel as their new head coach after parting ways with Brian Flores following the end of the regular season as they failed to reach playoffs for the 5th straight year.
Mike McDaniel spent five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, where he most recently served as the team’s offensive coordinator (2021) following four years as the Niners’ run game coordinator (2017-2020) as he prepares himself for his first head coaching stint in his career.
McDaniel during his journey to Miami, spoke to the quarterback of the Dolphins Tua Tagovailoa for the first time via facetime as he was very excited to work with him and said, “You have the ambition to be great.”, as they both prepare to combine to kickstart a new era at the Miami Dolphins following recent struggles.
“My job is to coach you, to get all of that greatness out of you”- Mike McDaniel to Tua
New Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel while talking to Tua further said, “My job is to coach you, to get all of that greatness out of you.”, He added, “We are gonna make sure that when you look back on this day, you’ll be like ‘Damn that was the best day of my career too’.”
McDaniel said, “I am happy for you and myself and I think that the Dolphins fans should be happy as well.”
Tua responded, “I am very excited and there would have been no other coach in the world that I would have liked to work under more.”
Tua and Mike McDaniel would hope to work well together and lead this Dolphins team to their first playoffs appearance since 2016 despite coming off of back-to-back winning seasons and aim to win their first division title since 2008.
The coach’s reputation as a run-game specialist could spell major improvement for Miami’s rushing attack, which finished 30th in 2021 and McDaniel will be looking forward to building new staff for this team to start a new era.
