“Mike Tomlin was unbelievable,” Ohio State HC Ryan Day hails Steelers coach for supporting Dwayne Haskins
The NFL was rocked back by the unfortunate death of Dwayne Haskins, who passed away on Saturday. The former Ohio State quarterback was struck by a truck on a South Florida highway.
Haskins former school team coach Ryan Day spoke about his premier student, days after the shocking incident. Day showered high praise on Dwayne Haskins while also giving Pittsburgh Steelers’ coach Mike Tomlin his due credit for the quarterback’s meteoric rise.
Pittsburgh Steelers signed Dwayne Haskins in 2021 and Ryan Day was all praises for Mike Tomlin
Ryan Day recapitulated how Mike Tomlin helped and identified the best talents of the quarterback and did everything possible to incorporate him into the franchise. The Steelers picked him up in 2021 after he was released by the Washington Redskins.
“That was the most significant conversation was when he did have that restart with the Steelers,” Day said to the reporters.
“And coach Tomlin was unbelievable. He really wanted to help. He felt he saw those things and special traits in Dwayne. I think he says a lot about that organization, just what they tried to do for him and where they were at.”
Day said that Haskins understood what a great opportunity it was for him to be playing for the Steelers one day. The Ohio State head coach also attributed Haskins’ troubles in the league to the massive step up which players have to go through from college football to the NFL.
Ryan Day continued on Dwayne Haskins by saying, “But I think he felt like this was a great opportunity for him. He made some changes. And he was all in. And so anytime you play one year of college football and go into that league, it’s a challenge. And that was going to be a journey. It takes time, and especially at that position, everyone has a different story. And he was still working through that adversity.”
