After suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in week 1 of the 2023 regular season, the New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has successfully got the surgery done and is now on the road to recovery. Rodgers is expected to miss the entire 2023 NFL season while recovering from the injury. Amidst this, Rodgers has fired back at former ESPN broadcaster Keith Olbermann, who mocked Rodgers’ anti-vaccine stance after the Jets’ QB ruptured his Achilles.
During his recent appearance on the ESPN podcast The Pat McAfee Show, McAfee reminded Rodgers about Olbermann’s comments. “Keith Olbermann said that it’s because you’re not vaxxed, that’s why it [injury] happened,” said McAfee to Rodgers.
While replying to the quirky host, the Jets quarterback took a sneaky jab at Olbermann. “Get your fifth booster, Keith,” said the 4-time league MVP with a smirk, further calling Olbermann a, “BUM!”
Olbermann took shots at Rodgers’ anti-vaccine stance immediately after the Jets leader suffered the season-ending injury. “Another #SuddenLisfranc due to failure to vaccinate,” Olbermann wrote on the social media platform X along with six syringe emojis when Rodgers went down with an Achilles injury earlier this week. And now, Rodgers has fired back with his own jab at the former MSNBC broadcaster.
The veteran QB Aaron Rodgers is known for his anti-vaccine stance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even recently, he mocked the pharmaceutical company Moderna when he attended the US Open to witness Novak Djokovic in action. On a social media post, Rodgers put a snap of Djokovic in action while striking out Moderna’s name in the background.
Nonetheless, the 39-year-old QB ruptured his Achilles after just taking 4 snaps as the Jets’ signal-caller. He didn’t even complete a pass before going down with an injury. He will now focus on his recovery and will look to make a comeback in the next NFL season.
Apart from Olbermann, Newsmax’s Greg Kelly also had his take on why Rodgers suffered the ugly injury. “A competitive quarterback can’t be all happy and goofy all the time,” Kelly said. “Something happened to this guy [Aaron Rodgers], and I think I know what it was. He got involved in psychedelics. Ayahuasca or something like that—it’s not good.” He also advised the Pro Bowler to visit church instead of preaching nonsense. “Ayahuasca tea is a crummy substitute for God,” Kelly took a dig on Rodgers’ ayahuasca use.
Jets QB Aaron Rodgers teases an early return to the field
The 10-time Pro Bowl signal-caller Aaron Rodgers was expected to miss the entire 2023 season after suffering an Achilles injury. However, after the surgery, Rodgers recently teased an early return to the field.
During a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers said “Anything is possible” when he was asked about a potential return to the field in the ongoing season if the Jets make it to the postseason.
So, there’s a slight possibility that Rodgers could return to the field as soon as January 2024. That is if the Jets make it to the postseason under the leadership of their third-year quarterback Zach Wilson.
