A shocking incident in Florida happened as a youth football player was arrested on suspicion of shooting two 13-year-old kids over an argument during Pop Warner football practice. According to multiple reports, an 11-year-old football player allegedly shot two of his teammates using his mother’s gun.
This disturbing incident happened on Monday at a Northwestern recreation complex in Apopka, just outside Orlando. Reports suggest the 11-year-old ran to his mother’s vehicle to grab an unlocked firearm and fired a shot that hit two 13-year-olds after an argument broke out between them during football practice.
In a video obtained by TMZ, a teenager could be seen running to a vehicle and grabbing a gun before firing what seemed like a single shot. After he fired the shot, everybody ran from the spot, while the mother of the 11-year-old grabbed the gun from him while making him sit inside the vehicle. Check out the footage attached below.
The 11-year-old has been arrested and was booked on a single charge of second-degree attempted murder, Apopka Police Chief Mike McKinley told reporters Tuesday. “That’s not good,” Apopka Police Chief Mike McKinley said according to NBC News. “We shouldn’t have 11-year-olds that have access to guns and think they can resolve a dispute with a firearm.”
McKinley also said that as a society people should reflect on this incident and that “nobody wants to arrest an 11-year-old by any means.” The police chief further told reporters that juveniles are ruining their lives by trying to solve their problems using firearms.
As for what led to the fight between the 11-year-old and his teammates, McKinley didn’t have an answer. But he did reveal that the 11-year-old has no prior criminal record.
Mother of the 11-year-old football player could face charges
On Monday, an 11-year-old football player was arrested for allegedly shooting his two teammates over an argument during football practice. And now, the police chief has said the mother of the 11-year-old could also face charges in this incident.
The mother could face charges for leaving the weapon accessible. The chief said she left the firearm in an unlocked box. Furthermore, Orange-Osceola State Attorney Andrew Bain also said that they will make sure people responsible for this incident will be held accountable.
Following the disturbing incident, Tuesday’s Pop Warner football practices were canceled. Additionally, the organization revealed they will conduct parent meetings on Wednesday.
