Tyreek Hill is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL right now, but he might have never played in that position if he ended up being coached by veteran college football coach Nick Saban. The 29-year-old, who is a product of Oklahoma State University, revealed during his appearance on the “It Needed To Be Said” podcast how his career could have been extremely different now, if not for the right choices while choosing college.

Hill had to make one of the biggest decisions of his career in 2014, after coming out of his sophomore year, during which he had already set the stage ablaze with his natural talent on the gridiron. He almost joined the University of Alabama, coached by Nick Saban, and even visited his house personally alongside his parents, as the coach tried to woo him over.

However, one major blip in Saban’s efforts to make him join Alabama was the fact that he wanted to play Tyreek Hill as a running back, something he did not want to do. Hill’s mother was instrumental in making the decision for the young man back then, stopping her son from joining Saban’s side.

Tyreek Hill’s parents were adamant about him playing as a wide receiver since they felt that was where he would flourish eventually, and boy, were they right? Nick Saban, arguably one of the best coaches in college football, got his judgment wrong about Hill.

“So, [I] went to Alabama. I went to Nick Saban’s house. And what’s crazy is [we] went to his house. And then later that night, he came to meet me and my mom in our apartment room. My mom was like, ‘No, I don’t want you to go to school here’,” Hill said on his journey in college football.

“Because like we all know Nick Saban, recruiting all kinds of five stars and stuff. He wanted me to play running back at Alabama. And my mom was like, ‘Nah’. My mom and my dad was like, ‘Nah’. You are a receiver, like, I need you to get some space. And the things that he was telling us like it wasn’t lining up.”

Hill has built himself a considerable reputation in the NFL after being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. He won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs and is by far the fastest player in the league. Popularly known as Cheetah for his speed, he made earned a huge trade move to the Miami Dolphins last season, signing a 4-year contract worth $120 million.
