The 49ers and the Eagles will be going up against each other for the NFC conference clash and the fans can’t keep calm. Both teams have well-rounded teams with strengths in all departments.
The Eagles have had a better record than their opponents. However, the 49ers have rookie QB Brock Purdy, who has been a breath of fresh air since taking charge of the offense.
The game will decide the fate of the NFL Super Bowl and the fans’ excitement is reaching newer heights. Even the legendary Rocky Balboa was included in the skirmish between the fans of both teams.
The iconic Rocky statue situated in the city of Philadelphia was covered with the colours of 49ers, meant as disrespect and taunt towards the Eagles’ fans. The statue is a 9-foot-tall and was donated to the city in 1980 by actor Sylvester Stallone as the statue was used as a prop for Rocky 3.
Rocky was seen wearing a 49ers jersey while standing in his iconic position with his hands raised wide in the air. The mockery by San Francisco was absolute and the Eagles’ fans will surely hit back at them.
The defamation of the rocky statue will surely work as fuel for the Eagles’ players, who actually consider the statue as a legendary landmark of the city. Nonetheless, this is not the first time that the 49ers have messed with the Rocky statue.
The 49ers got the better of the Eagles the last time they met
Both the NFC contenders met before in 2021 in Philadelphia, where the 49ers fans had riled up the rocky statue yet again. However, it didn’t have any adverse effects as the visitors got a comfortable 17-11 victory on the road.
Regardless, this isn’t a regular season game and the Eagles look deadly this season with QB Jalen Hurts handling their offense. It will be an interesting matchup where Brock Purdy will take on Hurts.
The game will be held in Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, where the 49ers will be the visitors yet again. The Philly fans are known for their loud receptions and hostile atmosphere for the visitors.
The Eagles are looking to win the Super Bowl this year and have played accordingly all season. However, the 49ers have been the surprise package this season with the help of Mr. Irrelevant.
