“Anything is possible”: Kyle Shanahan makes a SHOCKING revelation about Jimmy Garoppolo’s future with the 49ers
Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo
The San Francisco 49ers have already announced that they will be going with Trey Lance as their starting quarterback for the upcoming season, Head Coach Kyle Shanahan publicly confirmed what we all speculated the whole offseason in the team’s press conference before the start of preseason. This has created a bit of an awkward situation for Jimmy Garoppolo, the veteran quarterback is still on the roster despite having recovered from his shoulder surgery.
Jimmy Garoppolo has been practicing in the San Francisco 49ers facility, not with the starters but with the backups, primarily by himself. He is still waiting to be called on by an NFL team so that he can be traded and get an opportunity elsewhere. There are a lot of teams who could genuinely use Jimmy’s skills as a leader and a QB but nobody has called upon him yet.
“He looks the exact same”: Kyle Shanahan claims Jimmy Garoppolo is back to 100% after surgery.
Just one look around the NFL and you can name a handful of teams that have average or shaky quarterbacks at best. Seattle Seahawks could definitely do better with Jimmy in the mix as the starter as Drew Lock has tested positive for COVID and Geno Smith is the only option available now. The Atlanta Falcons have Marcus Mariotta as their starter, he is not a scrub but if we compare him to Jimmy, you have to admit, Garoppolo is much better.
The best team for him is Cleveland, the Browns now have an idea that Deshaun Watson will be out for 11 games, and their best bet this season is Jacoby Brissett. Say what you will, if the team really wants to stay competitive this season, Jimmy is not that bad an option to consider. A one-year deal can be beneficial to both sides as we can see how Garoppolo’s arm is following surgery and the Browns get a shot to make the playoffs.
Head Coach for the 49ers Kyle Shanahan had this to say about his former QB, “I think any scenario is possible, I communicate with Jimmy all the time, he looks the same as he always has. He always throws it really good. So, he looks the exact same.” General Manager John Lynch and owner Jed York have also confirmed that the team does not have any issue keeping him on the 53-man roster and paying his $24 million salary. Considering the team has gone all in on Trey Lance, it does not make sense to keep him on the bench anymore but there is a possibility that if Trey does not live up to the expectations halfway into the season that Jimmy could step back in and take control.
