Since his debut for the Miami Dolphins, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been described in several ways. But not even in his wildest dreams would he have thought 49ers Fred Warner would compare him to legendary basketball player Stephen Curry.
Tagovailoa burst onto the football scene in his college days when he replaced the outgoing Jalen Hurts at Alabama. But he has been a revelation at Miami, even becoming the 2022 passing leader in the NFL. So it’s no surprise that comparisons will be made with some of the best.
San Francisco 49ers middle linebacker Fred Warner has high praise for the 25-year-old Hawaii-born star. Warner praised Tagovailoa’s ability to captain the Dolphins offense. The All-Pro Linebacker compared him to another Bay Area magician. He compared the Dolphins quarterback with NBA champion Stephen Curry. “He’s like the Steph Curry of that offense,” Warner said via @JacobMeshel. “He’s the point guard. Everything runs through Tua.”
That is a bold claim from the two-time pro bowler. Considering the last time they faced each other, the 49ers mopped the floor with a 17-33 scoreline in December 2022, It’s possible Warner saw the potential of the young quarterback firsthand and compared him to Curry. Steph Curry, on the other hand, is one of the best point guards the NBA has ever seen. He rebranded 3-point shooting with his Midas touch. A nine-time All-Star and two-time MVP with four championship titles put Curry in a league of his own.
As for Tua, the journey has only begun. He has only played three seasons in the NFL but missed most of them due to recurring injuries. Last year, he missed five games but still threw for 3,548 yards and recorded 25 touchdowns.

Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa denies being part of Quarterback season 2
After the massive success of Netflix’s NFL series ‘Quarterback,’ it has been renewed for another season, according to producer Peyton Manning. Naturally, speculation began to grow about who would be the next candidates to appear on the popular show. But one thing is for certain: fans won’t be seeing Tua Tagovailoa.
In a recent interview, he revealed that he had watched the series. When asked if he would be interested in being part of it, he refused, stating that the show covers very personal stuff.
“It was a lot more about their personal lives than it was more so what they did on the football field,” Tagovailoa said. “That’s not something that I like to do.” According to him, “There have been talks about it, but now it just isn’t the right time.”
The Quarterback, season one, features the Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes, the Minnesota Vikings Kirk Cousins, and the Eagles (the Atlanta Falcons during the shooting) Marcus Mariota.
