The San Francisco 49ers and their starting quarterback dilemma continues. Brock Purdy is expected to be the QB1 in San Fran as he has recently recovered from an elbow injury that he sustained during last year’s NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Purdy underwent surgery in March and has made a successful recovery.

In a recent segment of SPEAK on FS1, co-host Joy Taylor said that the 49ers “have no choice but to put faith into Brock Purdy.” She said, “What other choice do they have? You married now, by default. By accident really cause he was the last pick in the NFL draft.”

She further continued by saying, “The problem is they [49ers] spent 3 first-round picks on a quarterback from the Missouri Valley Conference who had started in 19 games in college and he’s [Trey Lance] not ready for the NFL. You’re other option is Sam Darnold who’s admitted to seeing ghosts on the field along with the other NFL defensive players coming after him, so what other choice do you have but to put faith in Brock Purdy?”

Purdy was drafted by the 49ers with the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, making him Mr. Irrelevant. He was thrust into the spotlight last season after injuries to both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo and was more than impressive in his rookie season.

Purdy is expected to beat out Lance and Sam Darnold for the starting QB job. The 49ers start their season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 10.

The San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has claimed that Brock Purdy was the best quarterback on the roster last year. Purdy saw his first NFL start come against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. Purdy was dubbed ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ as he was the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Purdy had an impressive rookie season and helped his team reach the NFC Championship game. Shanahan told Albert Breer of SI.com that “It took about three games” for the 49ers to come to the conclusion that Purdy will be their starting QB.

Purdy has fully recovered from his elbow injury which he suffered during last season’s Championship game. All the indications point towards Purdy starting for the 49ers come week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
