The reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Nick Bosa is holding out of the San Francisco 49ers’ practice. He had an excellent track record from his rookie season and expects to get paid accordingly. He is due for an extension and reportedly asked for more than Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald‘s $31 million contract.

Donald is widely regarded as one of the best defensive players in the history of the game. The Rams added a raise to his current contract last year, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. He is the only non-quarterback in the $30 million club. However, Bosa wants to surpass that and become the highest-paid non-QB in the sport.

Bosa’s holdout has cost him more than a million in fines already. The team can waive those fines since he is on a rookie deal. The Niners will hope that this situation does not drag on and Bosa’s contract gets extended as quickly as possible, with the season starting in a week.

The Niners are one of the contenders to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this year. They cannot reach there without the services of Nick Bosa, and they will hope to get him back as soon as possible. The Niners open their season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 10.

The San Francisco 49ers traded three first-round picks for the third spot in the 2021 NFL Draft. QB Trey Lance became the result of that trade. Two years later, Lance joined Dallas and will be a backup to Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott. The decision to give up draft picks did not go well, and HC Kyle Shanahan admitted it was a mistake.

While appearing on the KNBR 680 radio, Shanahan called the draft choice a mistake. He cited that it goes down as a mistake if things do not work out after moving up. He also recollected the options they had at the time and looked toward the future. Ultimately, it was a team decision to move up and select Lance due to the talents of the QBs in the 2021 Draft Class.

Trey Lance had a poor preseason and was traded to the Cowboys last month. He will look to resurrect his career in Dallas behind a veteran QB like Prescott. On the other hand, Shanahan hopes his trust in Brock Purdy works out, and they could make another run at the Super Bowl this season. They begin their season against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 1.
