From failing at the NFC title game last season to becoming the first team to acquire the playoff spot, the San Francisco 49ers have truly established themselves as a Super Bowl-contending team with a powerful offense never seen before. And as they say, a great team has one MVP candidate, but the greatest have three. This season, that’s the 49ers.

With a standing of 11-3, San Francisco is ruling atop the NFC top seed after the Philadelphia Eagles suffered their third consecutive loss in week 15. Given that, the 49ers are the only team to have three of its top players, Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, and Trent Williams, in the MVP race this season.

Quarterback Purdy is the frontrunner with the shortest odds of -190 while running back McCaffrey has the most prominent chance of winning the award for a non-quarterback with +900. Offensive lineman Williams has recently emerged in the MVP conversation.

Christian McCaffrey makes a strong case for Brock Purdy as NFL MVP

Considering the history of the NFL, the MVP award mostly goes to a quarterback. But this season, many top analysts have questioned whether or not QB Purdy deserves to be in the conversation. They believe he has logged such records only because of the dominant offense of the team and all of its key players.

Contrary to this, McCaffrey put forward a solid case for Purdy to win this award and also urged NFL legend Tom Brady to vote for him. In the latest episode of Tom Brady’s Let’s Go podcast while discussing the ongoing MVP race, the 49ers’ star running back listed his top MVP candidates, both of whom are his teammates, Purdy and Williams.

If I had my vote, it’d be Brock [Purdy] as the MVP and Trent [Williams] would be the second in line.
Argued McCaffrey

Brady revealed that he has one of the votes, even though he’s playing to buy some portion of the Raiders, and the running back urged him to give that vote in favor of quarterback Purdy.

Vote for Brock, man. That guy deserves it, man. I know, obviously, you respect that. He’s been unbelievable for this team and I hate when I hear people say anything negative, ‘Oh, he’s just a system quarterback.’ Everyone’s a system quarterback. That’s part of what being a quarterback is in my eyes. And then occasionally you make the plays outside of the X’s and O’s and that’s all he’s done all year. So he gets my vote.

McCaffrey argued that playing in a system is crucial for any quarterback, and that’s all one could ask for in that position.
