Justin Fields found support from the unlikeliest of sources. On the opening night of the build-up to Super Bowl LVIII, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle answered several questions on the team’s journey to the biggest sporting event. However, he also spoke his mind when asked about a completely different subject.
While the entire country is fixated on the Super Bowl in Vegas, football fans shouldn’t forget that the next event will be the 2024 NFL Draft. And if everything goes according to script, Fields’ destiny will be written on the first day of the draft.
Meanwhile, Kittle was in a question-and-answer session at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas. A reporter wanted to hear the All-Pro tight end’s thoughts on what the Chicago Bears approach should be regarding their quarterback.
The Bears have the No. 1 pick in the draft, and as per several analysts, if they do choose to use it, then it would be to bag a quarterback. However, Kittle thinks Ryan Poles (the Bears general manager) should stick with Fields and trade away the No. 1 pick.
Personally, they should trade back as many picks as they can. And build around a guy they have been trying to build. Give the guy some actual options. Well, he has options. Just help him out as much as possible. Build'em up as big as you can. Trust the kid.Kittle replied
Should the Bears keep Justin Fields?
Historically, Chicago hasn’t been a great place for quarterbacks to develop. Justin Fields is one of the many who, following their draft, failed to live up to their pre-draft hype. In three years, the 24-year-old only managed to win 10 games, losing 28. But it’s not all doom and gloom; last season, he showed that there’s still hope for him.
The majority of his wins came in the 2023 season. He played 13 games with a 5-8 record, completing 227 passes for 2562 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, and 12 carries with the ball for 657 rushing yards, scoring 4 touchdowns. Those may not look impressive numbers, but it was enough for the Solider Field to chant in his favor.
In the previous year’s draft, they traded for wide receiver DJ Moore, who recorded his best numbers since entering the NFL. Moore caught 96 passes for 1,364 receiving yards, scoring eight touchdowns. He wants to continue with Fields.
With him being younger than most of the quarterbacks I've been with, it made me revert back to learning the whole offense, so I could be on the same page with him and think the same things he was thinking. I think that's why my numbers were so high with him, because we were on the same page.Moore told ESPN
What should the Bears expect to get in return for the No. 1 pick?
As of now, both quarterbacks are projected to be the No. 1 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. One is USC’s Caleb Williams, and the other is North Carolina’s Drake Maye. Williams is favored to be the first one on the board. But his recent social media activity indicates that he prefers to remain close to home, which means he would rather stay in Washington and play for the Commanders than move to Chicago.
If the Bears choose to trade the No. 1 pick, then, as per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, they would receive several advantageous picks. There could be two first-round picks on the first day and a pick for the next day.
