“I don’t want to play football if I can’t win,” Aaron Donald ponders retirement as contract talks stall with the Los Angeles Rams

Aaron Donald will go down as one of the best players in the NFL. The 31-year old defensive tackle is a key cog in the Los Angeles Rams wheel and displayed his innate skills last season leading the Rams to a Super Bowl title.

However, there has been some speculation regarding his future at the franchise, given that his contract with them will come to an end. While Aaron Donald continues to be at the top of his game, he had assured his fans that he will return for the 2022 season, but the contract talks between him and the Rams have been stalled for a while now.

Aaron Donald is only focused on winning another Super Bowl title

This has prompted Aaron Donald to contemplate his next course of action, and the player did not rule out retiring as reported by Pro Football Rumours.

“It ain’t about the money,” Donald said per PFT before mentioning “business” repeatedly. “But it’s a business at the end of the day. That’s what you’ve got to see.

“For me, it’s about winning. I don’t want to play football if I can’t win anyway, so I feel like if I got a real opportunity to win another Super Bowl, then it makes sense to play. But again, it’s still a business. We’ve got to handle the business side of things, and if that wasn’t to get handled then, you know, it is what it is the type of situation. I’ll be fine regardless.”

Donald’s 2022 cap number marks the highest on his current deal ($26.75MM). The Rams can lower that via an extension. However, the general feeling around the camp is that Aaron Donald will eventually be handed out a massive contract extension, especially after the impact he had in the Rams Super Bowl-winning run last year.
