“No, not at all”: Aaron Donald says he wouldn’t have returned to the Rams if McVay wasn’t the Head Coach anymore

The LA Rams had an incredible outing at the Super Bowl last season and a lot of credit for their success has to go to Aaron Donald who was absolutely relentless not only in the final moments but throughout the tournament. If someone adds so much value to your team, it is evident that you will want him on your side.

There were reports that Donald will retire after the Super Bowl and the Rams were desperate to make him stay. In fact, Rodney Harrison had openly claimed before the Super Bowl that Aaron told him that he will contemplate retirement if he ends up winning the coveted title.

“I want to continue to build my legacy with him”: Aaron Donald on Sean McVay

Aaron Donald

As we all know, he did end up winning the title but absolutely no on wanted to see him call it quits so soon. Thankfully, Aaron agreed to sign a deal with the Rams a little while ago. He received a massive hike and became the highest paid non-QB in the history of the league. He is set to gain $95 million in total through to the 2024 season.

In a recent interaction with NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano and Maurice Jones-Drew, Donald opened up about head coach Sean McVay’s role in keeping him in the unit. “Not at all. Not at all,” Donald said when he was asked if he would have returned in case McVay had retired for a career in broadcasting.

If Sean ain’t here, I told Sean when he first got here. We came up with some things early and I first told him as long as he’s the head coach here, I want to continue to build my legacy with him. As long as he’s here and I got the ability to still play at a high level, I’m going to be here. When he’s gone and it’s all said and done, that probably will be when I’m hanging it up, too,” Donald said.

It’s always going to be motivation to do everything you can to get back,” Donald said. “That’s the ultimate goal. That’s what you work for. When you’re grinding and out here working right now, that’s in the back of your mind. To try to do everything you can to have a great season and try to be the last team standing,” he added.

Without a doubt, Donald played a super massive role in his team’s success last season and his presence is very important for the Rams if they have to win the title for the second time in a row.
