Ever since he was traded to the New York Jets by the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers has been constantly affirming that his tenure in New York would not be a one-and-done deal. And now, he has confirmed his commitment by restructuring his deal and taking a massive $35 million pay cut to free some cap space for the Jets. But the NFL insider Mike Florio interprets Rodgers taking a pay cut as him giving yet another middle finger to the Packers.
“They [Jets] traded for Aaron Rodgers assuming they were gonna pay him 108.7 million dollars. . . Oh, no, no, no… they are gonna pay him $75 million,” said Florio in a recent episode of the NBC Sports show Pro Football Talk.“It’s his business, but it’s a lot to give up to suck up to the team, to suck up to the fanbase, and to give a middle finger to Green Bay Packers and that’s why I think the motivation was.”
Florio believes, if the Packers knew that Rodgers was going to take a pay cut, they could’ve asked for a lot more draft picks in return during the trade than what they actually got during the trade back in April.
The Packers settled for a few draft picks since the Jets would’ve to take Rodgers’ massive contract, but now the 10-time Pro Bowl QB costs less than the New York Giants QB Daniel Jones.
Rodgers’ new restructured deal also includes a no-trade clause and a no-tag clause. That means he would be an unrestricted free agent in 2025 and would be free to sign with any team he wants if he decides to keep playing.

Aaron Rodgers’ contract restructuring move has led to some wild theories
The 4-time league MVP QB Aaron Rodgers’ shocking and unexpected move to take a $35 million pay cut in New York to show his commitment has led to some wild and interesting theories. As mentioned above, Mike Florio insinuates that Rodgers took a pay cut to ridicule the Packers organization since Rodgers wasn’t known for taking pay cuts in Green Bay.
Besides, the 39-year-old quarterback’s move has fueled some trade rumors. Fox Sports analyst Craig Carton implies that soon there could be reports about star wide receiver Davante Adams demanding a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders to reunite with Rodgers in New York.
Despite all the theories, it seems like Rodgers simply took a pay cut as a good gesture and so that the Jets could add more pieces around him. At this stage of his career, Rodgers is looking to win a ring and could use all the help he can get to achieve that.
