The New York Jets roped in veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the 2023 off-season to address the instability in their QB position. Rodgers recently restructured his contract and took a massive $35 million pay cut to help the Jets add more talent around him. The 39-year-old QB reportedly signed a contract that will keep him tied to the Jets till 2030. But will he play that long in the league?

Just ahead of the Jets’ third preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, CBS Sports aired an interview with Aaron Rodgers. During the interview, Rodgers talked about his future in New York and said he doesn’t want to play for just one year.

“I don’t plan on this being a one and done. I think we’re going to be competitive here for a long time,” said Rodgers. Additionally, Rodgers also had high praises for QB Zach Wilson and expects him to play in the league for 15-plus years.

“I’d like to be able to play a few good years here, and then hand it right back off to Zach, and let him go for the next 15, and then it’d be a really special 18-20 year run of great quarterback play,” Rodgers stated.

Following a blockbuster trade in April that saw Aaron Rodgers land in New York, the 10-time Pro Bowl QB has been mentoring the Jets’ former second-overall pick, Wilson. The Jets believe Wilson has the potential to take over the team once Rodgers decided to retire in a couple of years, and it seems like Aaron shares a similar sentiment.

Zach Wilson, who is expected to play as the second-string QB of the Jets during the Aaron Rodgers era, has been surprisingly performing great at the preseason games.

He has shown great improvement in his games and many people believe the 4-time league MVP’s mentorship is playing a huge role in Wilson’s improvement. Amidst this, Wilson claims that he is truly appreciative of having a big brother like Rodgers.

During the post-game interview after the Jets’ bout with the Tampa Bay-based football team, a reporter asked Wilson about Rodgers’ comments about him taking over the team. Wilson, with a big smile, said that it helps him that Rodgers has so much faith in him.

Nonetheless, Rodgers is expected to make his Jets debut in their final preseason game against the New York Giants on Saturday. The veteran signal-caller will likely play one or two drives in the first quarter in front of the MetLife Stadium crowd.
