Aaron Rodgers once bizarrely called Brett Favre ‘grandpa’ in an awkward exchange between the two Packers legends

There was a rumor that Aaron Rodgers addressed Brett Favre as ‘grandpa’ at their first meeting. Rodgers did not deny that he may, at some point in his career, have called Favre that, but certainly not on the first day.
By the time Rodgers was coming out of the California Golden Bears with some of the most impressive stats of any college football quarterback, Brett Favre was officially playing his 14th season for the Green Bay Packers and 15th in the NFL.
Over the years, there have been plenty of players who have served as the backup Favre in Green Bay. Jim McMahon, David Klingler, Doug Pederson, and Craig Nall all had great potential, but none were successful enough to dislodge the Super Bowl winner from the starting role. So despite Rodgers’ pedigree, many believed it would be hard for him to accomplish what several failed to achieve prior.
However, an excerpt from a book published in Bleacher Report says otherwise. It described the first interaction between Favre and Rodgers, who eventually replaced him at Green Bay.
June 2, 2005, was the date the two finally came face-to-face when the Packers came to town for a seven-practice organized team activity camp. Brett Favre was in attendance, despite not being required to. He was reading the newspaper in the cafeteria when Rodgers walked in.
“The new quarterback approached the old quarterback,” it read. And apparently, Rodgers uttered the ‘worst introductory line in the history of professional sports.’ “Good morning, grandpa!”
That year’s backup quarterback, Craig Nall, corroborated the story. “Brett couldn’t believe that,” Nall said. “It was like, ‘Grandpa? Who the hell are you?'”

Did Aaron Rodgers really call Brett Favre grandpa?
Aaron Rodgers has made a name for himself as one of the most vocal individuals in the NFL. But that doesn’t prove he was the same 18 years ago. A college graduate calling a living legend and icon of the game he loves ‘a grandpa’ sounds a bit over the top, and the 39-year-old agrees to that.
In October 2016, Rodgers claimed that the excerpt was “highly sensationalized.” According to him, they did meet at the practice field, not at a cafeteria. And on top of that, he was star-struck to see the great Brett Favre in front of him.
“I could barely get a sentence out,” Rodgers revealed. Then he shed light on whether he had ever called the now 54-year-old ‘grandpa’ during their three years together. “Probably,” he replied. “[But] it’s in the same joking way Brett Hundley called me ‘Grandpa’ three weeks ago on the field. The story I saw is completely 100 percent false.”
Well, even Travis Kelce would think twice about testing Aaron Rodgers’ memory. The Rodgers-Favre relationship has always remained a hot topic for many years. There doesn’t appear to be an end in the near future.
