Aaron Rodgers is the two-year running MVP who recently signed a new contract extension which might be the last of his career. The Green Bay Packers legend at 38 is still one of the best Quarterbacks on the field and a Super Bowl ring would be a caveat on his great legacy. Rodgers is not known to mince word and has been critical of his revamped wide receiving outfit, especially the youngsters but in a recent interview showed faith in his running backs.

The Green Bay Packers and Rodgers aim to win a Lombardi Trophy but with an unproven and depleted receiving core it would be a tall order. The Packers not only lost DaVante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders but also Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the Kansas City Chiefs. With the receiving corps in shambles, the Packers’ offence will rely heavily on running backs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, a fact acknowledged by Rodgers when he set some pretty high goals for both.

In a recent interview, Rodgers said to Zach Kruse of USA Today -“We’re going to have to use him[Aaron Jones] and 28. You’ve seen today, we had them in multiple packages where they’re both in the backfield. We have a lot of stuff out of that. We have runs to both of them. We have swing passes to them……..There’s a lot in the offense for those two guys. We’ve got to get out best 11 on the field, and it seems like those two are in our best 11.”

Rodgers’ comments have the Packers’ faithful scratching their heads- He also added- “I think 50 is really realistic. I think 50 for both of those guys is realistic.”

The target may not be much of a problem for Jones who last season had a career-high of 52 receptions on 65 targets. Dillon will have some difficulty doing it but there’s a chance for him. After appearing in just 11 games in his 1st year in the NFL, he got just two catches on two looks from the quarterback in 2020, last year Dillon recorded 34 receptions on 37 targets in his sophomore year in the pros.

Will Jones and Dillon live up to their QB’s expectations let’s wait and see.
