It has already been an eventful offseason for the New York Jets, who signed veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The dust still hasn’t settled yet, and the Big Apple franchise is going for another big-name player. Is star wide receiver Davante Adams heading to New York?
The 30-year-old has a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders until 2026, but renowned FOX Sports 1 NFL analyst Craig Carton claimed on his self-titled show that fans might see Adams leave before the regular season begins. “I guarantee you there’s going to be stories out there [saying] Davante Adams wants out of Las Vegas,” Carton speculated.
There might be some truth to the rumor mill, as recently Rodgers took a $35 million pay cut from his Jets deal. This does fuel the fire that the Super Bowl winner is aiming for a few new players. However, in recent remarks, he has hinted that there might be some additional trades in the green army.
According to NBC Pro Football Talk’s Peter King, Rodgers revealed, “Big names move at the trade deadline now. I wanted to make sure that if somebody valuable came available, we’d be able to get him. I’m very happy with the contract. I feel great about it.”
Earlier in March, there were similar rumors that Davante Adams would be leaving the Raiders. But he denied it, calling it annoying, and focused on partnering with new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Almost five months later, talks of a six-time Pro Bowler are in the headlines again. Will he finally decide to move and join his former Green Bay Packers teammate? Or the money that the Jets managed to save from Rodgers deal goes to signing Dalvin Cook.
Davante Adams and Jimmy Garoppolo join the Las Vegas Raiders training camp
Due to a nagging foot injury, Davante Adams and Jimmy Garoppolo hadn’t been able to train together until the Raiders’ recent training camp. This will be the first year the pair will play together in the NFL if Adams sticks around.
After day one of practice concluded, the wideout only had praise for his new quarterback. “He’s a great guy, easy to talk to,” Adams revealed. “He’s super coachable and listens to my feedback and how I view the game.”
As for Garoppolo, who played with receivers such as Deebo Samuel, he never had an elite player like Davante Adams on his team. After the first training session concluded, he spoke highly of his new teammate.
“It gives you a sense of relief to have a guy like that,” he claimed. “He was going full speed. It looks so smooth and effortless. I overthrew him on one of the deep balls, and he ended up getting to it.”
He will need last year’s NFL receiving touchdown leader in order to have a good debut season. However, if Aaron Rodgers does push for Adams’ trade, the Jets will acquire another superstar.
