Aaron Rodgers’ move to the New York Jets has finally been completed after months of pure speculation. The 39-year-old QB has officially moved to New York to shine on another team.
The trade between the Jets and the Green Bay Packers is one of the biggest trades ever in NFL history. The New York-based team traded Rodgers for 3 draft picks, including a conditional 4th pick. These are astronomical numbers for a 39-year-old. However, Rodgers also has a lot of credibility to his name.
With Rodgers’ move to the Jets almost completed, one big question still remains. What will be Aaron Rodgers’ jersey number for the Jets next season?
Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have immortalized the number 12 in the NFL. Both, Rodgers and Brady, are regarded as the best QBs of this generation while wearing the same jersey number.
Rodgers wore No.12 throughout his journey with the Packers. However, wearing the same jersey number with the Jets would have been a small problem for the Super Bowl-winning QB.

The No.12 jersey has been retired by the New York Jets
Aaron Rodgers would encounter a small problem if he wants to wear the No.12 jersey. The reason is, the jersey number has been retired by the Jets quite some time ago. It was immortalized by the Hall of Famer Joe Namath.
However, the Hall of Famer QB gave Rodgers his blessing to wear the iconic number. “If he’s there, yeah, I want him to wear his number,” Namath stated. “We establish ourselves, and we got a real respect for our numbers, and Aaron Rodgers, God almighty yeah, it would be great to have him in New York.”
Joe Namath’s blessing aside, Rodgers has firmly decided which numbers he’s going to wear for the Jets next season and it’s not No.12.
Aaron Rodgers will wear the No.8 jersey with the Jets
The Jets have done a lot to land Aaron Rodgers in New York. Therefore, the veteran QB has done them a favor by not picking their retired number. Instead, Rodgers has been a bit nostalgic and has decided to wear the No.8 jersey during his time in college.
As per recent reports, Rodgers will wear the No.8 jersey with the Jets, the same number he wore during his time with Cal. The 39-year-old QB played college football for the California Bears football where he wore the Number 8.
Rodgers will be seen in the same jersey after almost 18 years. The reason he chose jersey number ’12’ with the Packers was that when he joined, the number 8 was utilized by kicker Ryan Longwell, who had served a lot to the Packers.
