The 9/11 curse continues for the New York franchises as it takes another victim. The long-anticipated Aaron Rodgers debut for the New York Jets ends in despair.
Locals of the Big Apple were expecting something to cheer for in the dreadful weather after they saw a giant hammering last night. Unfortunately for the city that never sleeps, it will continue to have sleepless nights as the Jets kick off their week one game against the Buffalo Bills.
The MetLife Stadium crowd cheered in expectation from the home side, as they had hoped to see some fireworks. But they only witnessed a gut-wrenching moment. Rodgers brought renewed hope to the Jets, as they were touted to be one of the favorites in the AFC. Head coach Robert Saleh gave the MVP quarterback just a couple of drives in the final preseason game to protect his star player from any injury.
However, he had to play at the start of the regular season. The Bills posed a tough challenge. But no one was ready for what happened next. The 39-year-old Aaron Rodgers ran out of the tunnel with the American flag in his hands, signaling his arrival. Unfortunately, his day came to a premature end in the first quarter, 2nd down, as Bills’ new defensive end Leonard Floyd sacked the veteran.
Social media in awe after Aaron Rodgers’ premature departure from the Bills game
At first, it didn’t look too serious until Rodgers went down, clutching his leg. Fans watched on as he hobbled off to a cart near the dugout. On the field, medics on the first examination claim it’s most likely an ankle injury. In the meantime, backup Zach Wilson has been handed the quarterback job. The event ended on a sour note, as fans are yet to process what transpired in front of them.
Former teammate David Bakhtiari has questioned the use of artificial turf. There have been campaigns to bring natural grass back to the stadiums, as a lot of players get injured because of it.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes wished for Rodgers’ quick recovery. He shared “praying for the best” on Twitter.
Aaron Rodgers joined the New York Jets in the offseason after spending 18 years with the Green Bay Packers. He signed a two-year deal but has plans to stay in New York for more than that. However, with this new injury, his season is thrown into contention.
