“Aaron Rodgers was indecisive and untrustworthy”: Gerald McCoy reveals the shocking reason behind Davante Adams leaving the Packers

Gerald McCoy and Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is back with the Green Bay Packers for this season, there has been much question surrounding his future plans as he is currently in a position wherein he can walk away from the game without facing any contractual obligations or legal repercussions as the agreement he signed with the Packers last year was flexible in nature. This offseason as well, he added more uncertainty on his future by stating that he is not as motivated as before to play football and that we are most certainly looking at him play his final years in this league.

Though these are his last seasons, it is hard to expect him to make the Super Bowl anytime soon, the talent across the NFL is at an all-time high and the weapons Rodgers has to work with are few. He suffered a setback this season as he lost Davante Adams who is now a Las Vegas Raider. After the trade, Adams stated that Aaron’s uncertainty about playing in the league had a role to play in his offseason decisions.

Gerald McCoy, former Buccaneers Defensive Tackle recently appeared on The Herd with Colin Cowherd where he spoke on a wide array of topics, one of them being Aaron Rodgers and how the quarterback’s transparency ended up ruining his title chances at another Super Bowl.

“If I’m his receiver, I’d feel the same way. You can’t keep doing that, I’m about to be locked in here for the next 5 years and I want a quarterback that I can trust.” McCoy stated and went on to add, “We seen the backup play, it wasn’t pretty, so I don’t think he’s really confident on being there for 5 more years with (Jordan) Love. If you (Aaron Rodgers) are here, il stay. I need some security, I want the money as well but I want the security because I play a dependent position, so if you are in-and-out, I don’t trust it so I understand and respect it,” Gerald concludes.

Any wideout in the NFL no matter how talented is reliant on the quarterback, don’t nobody want Andy Dalton or Carson Wentz as their quarterbacks if they have an option to find greener pastures elsewhere. Receivers choose the destination where the quarterback is talented and they also get paid as well. In Green Bay, Rodgers is there on a year-to-year basis, Jordan Love is likely to succeed him but there is not much excitement or optimism surrounding him and you cannot blame him for that, he is a 10-year-old in terms of NFL years and when Rodgers steps away from the game, this 10-year old will have to step in and fill the shoes of a 60-year old seasoned vet.

Davante Adams had to deal with this or he could go back and play with his former college QB in Derek Carr at Las Vegas, not to mention the state offers zero taxes on income as well. Given all of these circumstances and reasoning, it makes sense as to why Davante chose the Raiders and it would have probably been in the best interest of all if Rodgers had kept his plans to walk away to himself.
