The Green Bay Packers will take on the Chicago Bears in their week 18 game on Sunday. This is the NFL‘s oldest rivalry and is one of the most anticipated fixtures during a season. These two teams have met once already, back in week 1, when the Packers destroyed the Bears, 20-38. It was the first Packers-Bears game without superstar QB Aaron Rodgers since 2005.
The upcoming matchup between these two teams have major playoff implications. If the Packers beat the Bears on Sunday, they will get into the postseason in their first season without Rodgers at center. Jordan Love, the team’s current QB, served as a backup to Rodgers for three seasons and will lead his team to the playoffs if they manage to win on Sunday. The New York Jets‘ quarterback recently gave his thoughts on the rivalry with the Bears.
Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show:
It's the Super Bowl for the Bears just about every year because they haven't been to the playoffs in for so long [since the 2020 season]. We've won, [Packers head coach] Matt [LaFleur] has never lost to them, so nine in a row. ... Is it a rivalry anymore? If they can't beat us, is it a rivalry? Every coach that gets hired in Chicago, his first goal is to beat Green Bay.Aaron Rodgers on The Pat McAfee show
Green Bay is in the midst of a nine-game winning streak against Chicago. It began in 2019 during HC Matt LaFleur‘s first season in charge. The Packers would match the longest winning streak in series history if they prevail on Sunday. In the 1990s, when Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre was the starting quarterback for Green Bay, the team also won 10 straight games.
Pat McAfee apologizes for his role in the ongoing Aaron Rodgers-Jimmy Kimmel beef
The Aaron Rodgers-Jimmy Kimmel feud began in 2021. It reignited recently when the New York Jets quarterback hinted that the host of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ was acquainted with Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of having s** with minors. Rodgers made the comments on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday. Since then, Pat McAfee has apologized for airing Rodgers’ comments made towards Kimmel.
McAfee said:
Some things obviously people get very pissed off about, especially when they’re that serious allegations. So we apologize for being a part of it... Hopefully those two will just be able to settle this, you know, not work-wise, but be able to chitchat and move along.Pat McAfee on Jimmy Kimmel
Rodgers appears on the show on a daily basis. He is known for giving controversial statements and doesn’t shy away from the criticism that comes with it. The former Green Bay Packers QB signed with the Jets earlier this offseason, but did not play this season due to an Achilles injury he suffered in the first week of the campaign.
