Aaron Rodgers of the New York Jets is a polarizing figure. He is constantly in the news for his on-field brilliance as well as his off-field antics and opinions. Back in November of 2021, Rodgers called out Joe Biden over the left government’s anti-vaccine stand during the Donald Trump era.
While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, hosted by ex-NFL punter and kick-off specialist Pat McAfee, Rodgers said, “When Trump in 2020 was championing these vaccines, what did the left say? Don’t trust the vaccine. Don’t get the vaccine. What happened? Biden wins and everything flips. Shouldn’t that give you a little bit of pause? Isn’t this about health, not politics?”
Rodgers appeared on The Pat McAfee Show after testing positive for COVID-19 and was quarantined at his house during the interview. Rodgers, earlier that year, had said that he was “immunized” suggesting that he had already taken the vaccine. He also quoted Dr. Martin Luther King while appearing on the show, saying, “The great MLK said you have a moral obligation to object to unjust rules and rules that make no sense.”
Since then Rodgers has been traded to the New York Jets from the Green Bay Packers. He made the headlines earlier this year when he went into a “darkness retreat” to make the decision of where he wanted to play next. Rodgers eventually decided to play for the Jets and will open the season against the Buffalo Bills on September 12.
Aaron Rodgers likely to make his Jets debut this Saturday
After being traded to the New York Jets, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is yet to make his official debut. The Jets have played three preseason games till now and Rodgers has watched all of them from the sidelines. That is about to change as reports suggest that he will make his debut against the New York Giants in Jets’ final preseason game.
He will need a few reps to understand his new offense and will likely start for the Jets. This will be the first time he will play in a preseason game since 2018 when he was still with the Green Bay Packers.
Rodgers will be expected to lead a young and dynamic Jets team to the playoffs. They already have the reigning offensive and defensive rookies of the year in Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardener, respectively. The Jets have also added significant offensive weapons in WR Allen Lazard and RB Dalvin Cook. The Jets begin their season against the Bills on 12th September.
