The New York Jets thought they finally had stability in their quarterback position after acquiring Aaron Rodgers in a blockbuster trade just ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. However, Rodgers ended up suffering a season-ending Achilles injury after playing just 4 snaps for his new team. As a result, Rodgers is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 NFL season. In his absence, Zach Wilson will take over the starting signal-caller gig, but the Jets fans are not optimistic about their chances under Wilson.

Many experts are already debating which veteran quarterback the Jets should sign to replace Rodgers. But the 4-time league MVP put his firm trust in the former second-overall pick.

“I’m very confident in Zach,” Rodgers said on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Friday. “And I think he’s confident in himself, which is the most important thing. It was an important offseason for him.” Furthermore, Rodgers also cited the young signal-caller’s good performances at the preseason games and in the week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills as an example of Wilson’s boosted confidence.

“Very important, I think, to get his confidence back and to be able to work on some of the little fundamental things that I think you’ve seen show up in the preseason and obviously the other night on Monday,” said Rodgers.

Rodgers suffered the Achilles injury in the very first drive of the Jets’ week 1 game. Wilson stepped in for the 10-time Pro Bowler and led the Jets to an important victory against their division rivals.

Aaron Rodgers doesn’t rule out calling plays for the Jets

Despite suffering a season-ending injury, Aaron Rodgers didn’t rule out the possibility of calling plays for the New York-based football team. He said he would like to throw in some suggestions during the game in a recent episode of the ESPN podcast The Pat McAfee Show.

“I would assume that I won’t be on the sidelines for a while. Hopefully, I can get a headset in whatever box I’m in and throw in some suggestions in there,” said Rodgers on the Pat McAfee show.

Rodgers put on a headset and called some plays for Zach Wilson during the preseason games. And, if the Jets want, he would certainly help out the young quarterback. Besides, Rodgers has implied that there is a slight possibility he might return to the field during the 2023 postseason. So, if Wilson can lead the Jets to the playoffs, there’s a tiny possibility Rodgers might return to the field in the ongoing season itself.
