The New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during the 1st quarter of their week 1 matchup against the Buffalo Bills earlier this week. As expected, Rodgers has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing season. However, the 39-year-old quarterback has revealed he doesn’t plan on retiring because of the injury.
During a recent episode of the ESPN podcast The Pat McAfee Show, the veteran quarterback made an appearance and talked about the long recovery process ahead of him. In the episode, McAfee asked Rodgers about his thoughts on people saying that Rodgers should retire because of the injury.
“Give me the doubts, give me the timetables, give me all the things that you think can, should, or would happen, because all I need is that one little extra percent of inspiration. That’s all I need. Give me your prognostications and then watch what I do,” answered Rodgers.
Rodgers then went on to say that he has concocted a “damn good rehab plan that will shock some people” after consulting with experts and other athletes that have suffered the same injury.
In the same interview, the 10-time Pro Bowler also implied that he could return to the field as soon as the 2023 postseason. He channeled his inner Kevin Garnett, and said,“Anything is possible.” But he didn’t give any specific timetable for his return.
So, Rodgers, for now, doesn’t plan on retiring because of the torn Achilles. He successfully went through surgery on Wednesday and is now focused on the long rehab process. The veteran had already revealed that he plans to stay with the team and mentor Zach Wilson despite his injury.

Aaron Rodgers took inspiration from Kobe Bryant for the surgery

The NY Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers successfully went through surgery for a torn Achilles just a couple of days after he suffered the injury. Recently, Rodgers revealed he took inspiration from the NBA legend Kobe Bryant to get the surgery done as soon as possible.
“First of all, I knew that Kobe [Bryant] had done his Achilles so I looked into it right away,” said Rodgers. “On the table at Monday night, I thought about Kob and I’d seen Muse but forgotten that he’d gotten surgery on the next day. I didn’t realize Kobe had gotten it the next day, but I didn’t want to waste any time.”
During a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers further revealed that as soon as the MRI confirmed his Achilles injury, he wanted to get the surgery done the next day. He aimed to speed up the process to begin his rehabilitation as soon as possible.
Rodgers acknowledged age isn’t on his side but still hopes to make a swift recovery and get back on the field. There’s a slight possibility that the 4-time league MVP could be back as the Jets QB as soon as the 2023 postseason. It all depends on how well his recovery goes in the next few months.
