The Aaron Rodgers trade saga has finally reached its endgame. The Packers QB has revealed that he intends to play for the New York Jets next season but before making up his mind the 39-year-old almost hung up his boots during his time in the darkness retreat program.
The whole league was waiting for the Packers QB to make a decision about his future in the league. And now, the 10-time Pro Bowler has announced his decision that he wants to continue playing and he wants to do it in the big apple. Both teams are working out a deal for the trade regarding the 4-time league MVP that could cost multiple 1st round picks and some players for the NY Jets.
But Aaron Rodgers would immediately make the Jets a Super Bowl contender, so he would certainly be worth everything they give up. In addition, Rodgers has also allegedly given the Jets a “wishlist” of players that he likes the franchise to try to acquire. That list allegedly includes the Packers WR Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and the former Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. However, before doing all this the former Super Bowl Champion almost retired from football.
Aaron Rodgers believes the Packers moved on from him
Aaron Rodgers recently made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show to talk about his future in the league. During the episode, he revealed that the Packers moved on from him even before he made up his mind.
“When I came out of the darkness, something changed, and I’m not exactly what,” Rodgers said. “When I got back to my phone after five days, I had hundreds of texts and emails and realized there had been a shift – I heard from multiple people I trust around the league that there was some shopping going on, and they were looking to move me.”
Furthermore, he also revealed that he was “90 percent towards retiring and 10 towards playing” at the time he began his darkness retreat program but when Rodgers heard the news about Packers trying to move him, he started exploring his options in the league.
“It was clear to me at that point that while the Packers were willing to say the right thing publicly, they really wanted to move on. I’m not sure why, and I won’t sit here as a victim, but I think I wish that had been the conversation in the beginning of the offseason,” said Rodgers.
In the end, Aaron Rodgers has finally made his decision and he has chosen New York as his new home. Now, it’s just a matter of time before both teams can work out a deal and announce it officially.
