Aaron Rodgers has to decide, if he wants to stay back in Green Bay or move to New York.

Aaron Rodgers completed his 18th season in the NFL with the Packers and 15 years as their starter. Contrary to his back-to-back MVP seasons in 2020 and 2021, Rodgers fell short of it in 2022. He finished the season with an 8-9 record and rumors started circling about his potential retirement or exit from the Packers.

Fast forward to a few weeks later, the Jets and the Packers have hammered out all the details regarding a trade as reported by Connor Hughes of SNY. He said, “From my understanding on #Jets & Aaron Rodgers: Everything that needs to be done is essentially done in regards to a trade. Sides have worked out what needs to be worked out. So if Rodgers wants to be a Jet, he will be a Jet. Broken record, but … just waiting on him to decide.”

If this report is true, then Aaron Rodgers is at a crossroads at the most important point of his football journey because the path he chooses will dictate what may very well be his last season in the NFL and the legacy he leaves behind. The Jets are probably the best fit for him given the all-in efforts made by the front office as well as the players. The team is stacked with weapons on both sides and they have also cleared another $13.1 million in cap space to accommodate Rodgers.

A few hours after Connor Hughes broke the story of a done deal between the Jets and the Packers, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero denied the reports and said, that there is yet to be a deal made and both sides are waiting on Aaron Rodgers to announce his final decision. The deal will be finalized when Rodgers says he wants to move to New York.

With both sides waiting on a decision from Rodgers, there is a countdown to finalize his move for the 2023 season. Packers CEO Mark Murphy said the team will honor his trade request and “create a situation where it’s a win for both sides.” Murphy also added that he would like for the whole Aaron Rodgers trade to come to an end before the start of free agency on March 15.

If the 4x NFL MVP takes longer to decide where he wants to play, then Green Bay will start pressurizing him. The reason is that they are already ready to move on with Jordan Love under center. “Yeah, we have a lot of confidence in him,” Murphy said of Love on Friday. “We drafted him and developed him. A lot of credit goes to our coaches and to Jordan. But we do think he’s ready.”

Jordan Love has been on the bench for three years now, which kind of seems like a Packets tradition as Rodgers also went through the same during the start of his illustrious career. But now, it’s time that the Packers see what Love is made of and whether he has learned a trick or two from one of the greatest quarterbacks in the league or not.

How these teams move forward is totally dependent on what Aaron Rodgers decides and given the “darkness retreat” he took to finalize his 19th season in the league, it shouldn’t take long before he announces his decision.
