It has finally happened! Aaron Rodgers is no longer a Green Bay Packer. The 4-time MVP has been traded to the New York Jets a month after he stated that he no longer intends to stay on the team that drafted and groomed him. The future Hall of Famer made his intentions to play for the New York Jets crystal clear and after a month of negotiations, the trade has finally gone through.

The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets were yet to agree to an amicable trade and that resulted in some delay. Aaron Rodgers is finally the newest member of the Jets, as per Adam Schefter, who reported that the team will be giving 3 guaranteed picks and a conditional fourth pick in exchange for number 12.

Schefter has reported that the Jets will be giving up their 13th pick of the first round in the 2023 NFL Draft, their 42nd pick in the 2nd round, and their 207th pick in the 6th round of the draft. The Jets have also agreed to forego a 2nd round pick in the subsequent year’s draft provided Aaron Rodgers takes 65% of the Jets’ total offensive snaps in the 2023 season.

The New York Jets will in turn receive Aaron Rodgers, the 15th pick in this year’s NFL draft and the 170th pick (5th rounder) from Green Bay. The 1-time Super Bowl winner is reportedly changing his jersey number this season as well. Aaron will no longer sport his iconic number 12 jersey which he wore in Green Bay for 18 glorious seasons.

He will be wearing number 8. Former Jets QB Joe Namath sported number 12 and had given Rodgers his blessing to wear his number, however, Aaron has opted to revert to the jersey number which he wore in college at Cal State.

The departure of Aaron Rodgers is a fresh move for the Packers as they move on from their four-time MVP who earned them a Super Bowl and was their longtime franchise QB. The New York Jets get a veteran QB who they believe has the potential to take them to the Super Bowl immediately. Rodgers has been plotting his move to the Jets all off-season as he made the team orchestrate some key trades to get him the necessary weapons he needs on offense.

While the Jets-Packers trade was far from a simple one, it was only a matter of time before it went through as the QB had his mind set that he intended to play in The Big Apple. It remains to be seen if the Jets’ effort and trade pay off this season. Jordan Love will take over for the Packers for the 2023 NFL season.
