Caleb Williams once again reiterated that he is a massive Aaron Rodgers fan. According to him, the New York Jets quarterback is his favorite NFL player of all time. Tom Brady is a close second.
The projected future No. 1 in the NFL Draft attended the Combine last week along with other hopeful college athletes to attract the attention of scouts from various franchises. The NFL’s official X account shared a clip of an interview in which Williams said that the Jets’ Rodgers is the player whom he models his game after the most.
Williams said:
I try to model my game after a bunch of guys, but Aaron Rodgers is no one.Caleb Williams said
Caleb Williams’s prospects as an NFL quarterback
The USC quarterback received the third highest grade from NFL.com, behind Malik Nabers and Marvin Harrison Jr. Word around the block is that the 22-year-old is a tailor-made starter from his rookie season.
Williams had drawn comparisons with Patrick Mahomes ever since moving to USC from Oklahoma. But NFL’s Draft Analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes that, unlike the three-time Super Bowl winner, Williams will be viewed as an instant starter by the team that drafts him. Mostly because of the situation, he would find himself rather than skill.
Jeremiah said, as per the Washington Post:
Pat [Mahomes] needed some time to clean some things up and got a chance to sit for a year. Obviously, I don’t think Caleb’s going to be afforded the same luxury in that department. But I think you can put a plan in place where you put more on his plate the longer that he goes.Daniel Jeremiah said
Can Caleb Williams replace Justin Fields?
The Chicago Bears hold the No. 1 pick in the next draft and are strong favorites to add Caleb Williams while trading away Justin Fields, whom they selected 11th overall just three years ago. During the combine last week, he met with representatives of several quarterback-needy franchises, like the Washington Commanders, Las Vegas Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, and Bears.
He later told ESPN.com‘s Pete Thamel on the phone that he would be excited to be in Chicago, which is a complete 180 from just a few months ago. He told Thamel:
If I get drafted by the Bears, I'll be excited. Speaking of Chicago, they have a talented team, a talented offense, and a talented defense. For anyone to be in that situation, I think they'd be excited.Caleb Williams said
Perhaps the possibility of moving to the windy city is finally starting to sink in. No wonder, contrary to popular belief, he is ready for whatever team drafts him.
Williams said:
I'm not pushing any agenda. At the end of the day, the [Bears] have the last say. Regardless of how I feel.Caleb Williams added
That can wait, but before that, news arrived that he became the first player to decline a physical examination at the combine. Previously, he had also declined to take part in the drills and refused to throw.
