Another season of college football came to an end for Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban in the Rose Bowl. Currently, the veteran coach is enjoying some downtime with family before becoming busy with spring football and recruiting. But even before that, one question lingers on every football enthusiast’s mind: was this the final year for Saban?

In Thursday’s episode of ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show, host Pat McAfee asked the 72-year-old the same question. Saban replied,

Because I’m getting old, I guess.

The times are changing, and the college ball game has seen several upheavals since I began coaching. So it may raise the question of whether the Alabama coach’s tactics are still viable for the current era. Even though he delivered another SEC championship, he also snapped the Georgia Bulldog’s 29-game winning streak. Not only that, but that led the Tide to another CFP game.

Some players ask me when I’m going to retire. I look at them and say, ‘Can you guarantee me that you’re going to be here for four years? They look at me like, ‘Hell, no'.

Nick Saban received hateful messages from angry Florida State fans

Alabama was locked into a two-way battle with the Florida State Seminoles of the ACC for a place in the CFP semifinals. Nick Saban’s side lost one game, while the Noles went the season unbeaten, and the majority of the football fandom wanted to see them go through. However, the committee decided on the team that had more experience playing Bowl games and had more exposure to media.

They selected the Crimson Tide to face the Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl. It made a lot of people unhappy, especially fans down on the south beach. According to Saban, he has received plenty of hate messages and phone calls since the announcement.

A lot of Florida State people called me. I got thousands of phone calls and bad text messages and called every name in the book.

Not only that, but his wife, Miss Terry, wasn’t spared either.

Miss Terry even got called a few names. They did. We got into the playoffs, and they didn't.

When Saban traveled to Florida for a recent recruiting drive, a few locals confronted him. He consoled them, saying that Bama faced the same situation back in 2022, so he understood what they were going through.
