Some moments need to be cherished for life. One such moment was caught after the Michigan Wolverines beat the Alabama Crimson Tide at the 2023 Rose Bowl. Former high school teammates JJ McCarthy and Taylor Booker, who found themselves on opposite sides on Monday night, embraced each other and shared a few words of encouragement.

The game went into overtime for an outcome. And it was from a McCarthy pass to dynamic running back Blake Corum that Michigan sealed the win. It took all the effort from the Wolverines to get one over Bama.

When the celebration was in full swing, McCarthy met up with his buddy from his former high school, IMG Academy. He was guarding Bama’s quarterback, Jalen Milroe, on the night. Booker saw the Michigan QB coming towards him and hugged him really tight.

He parted with a few words for the Wolves QB, who will face the Washington Huskies in the CFP Finals on January 8.

I am so happy for you. Go finish the job, alright.

There was a lot of tension before the game in Pasadena. Even before that, the controversy surrounding both teams had attracted more attention. Michigan was in their third straight playoff, but this was the farthest they had managed to go. On the other hand, Bama sneaked in via the CFP committee vote.

The game couldn’t have been more neck-and-neck. If one side scored, the other would reply back. Eventually, the game went on over time. JJ McCarthy, at that point, had completed 15 passes that resulted in two touchdowns. However, his final layoff to Corum for a 17-yard mazy run past the Bama defense was the last nail in the coffin.

During the post-game press conference, the young quarterback described what went through his head when he passed to Corum. He said:

I just feel like it was everything that we were battling all year; it was waiting to come out in moments like these where we just perfect all the little details and we’re ready to go execute.

McCarthy finished the game with 17 completions for 221 yards and three touchdowns. Croum had 19 carries for 83 yards and a rushing touchdown. Wide receiver Roman Wilson, who later trolled the Bama players, caught four passes for 73 yards and a touchdown.
