Former Dallas Cowboys outside linebacker Aldon Smith has been sentenced to one year of prison as reported by TMZ Sports. A Northern California courtroom passed the sentence on Smith for an incident that occurred back in December 2021. Smith will begin serving out his sentence immediately.
The incident occurred in Redwood City as police alleged that Aldon Smith rear-ended a truck at a stop sign on a freeway off-ramp. As per the police, Smith was drunk while driving the car and was caught with marijuana in his pocket. Additionally, there were empty bottles of rum and vodka lying on the car floor.
According to TMZ Sports, the driver of the truck suffered severe injuries to their back, wrist, knee, leg, and foot in the crash. Smith cut the prosecutors in January stating he would not be charged with more than 18 months in prison. The 33-year-old pleaded no contest to his charges and was sentenced to one year in prison and five years of supervised probation.

Aldon Smith has had multiple run-ins with the law
Aldon Smith was selected seventh overall in the 2011 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Smith played out his rookie contract with the 49ers and was quite effective for the team. He was then signed by the Las Vegas Raiders.
After playing one season with the Raiders, he was suspended for the next two seasons. Finally, in 2020, the Cowboys signed him to a one-year contract. Following this, Smith was signed by the Seahawks but was released a few months later.
Aldon Smith was first arrested for a DUI in 2012. In 2013-2015, Smith was involved in multiple controversies and was suspended by the league for nine games in the 2014 season. Then in 2018, he was arrested for domestic violence.
Despite being a good player, Aldon Smith’s legal issues cut his career short and ruined any chance he had of a comeback in the 2023 season.
