Following his team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison received many vile, racist texts. After a poor showing on “Thursday Night Football,” the 25-year-old took screenshots of the messages he received and shared them on Instagram.
With the team falling to 0-2 to start the season, several people took their disappointment to another level. Mattison disclosed that he was targeted by over 60 individuals who bombarded him with offensive remarks.
The people called Mattisonย phrases like “stupid f**cking c**n” in his DMs, among other disparaging insults. Aside from the horrifying racist remarks, several individuals toldย him to kill himself and other things. Mattison responded to the haters with an uncompromising message of his own. He shared his disappointment about the messages and expressed his hope that those who sent them understand the harm they can cause to someone.
“Ya’ll can come at me all you want about fantasy and, “you suck” blah blah blah. I really could care less. But this sh*t is unnacceptable. Smfh I hope the 60+ people who decided to come at me with disgustingly disrespectful messages tonight in DM’s and comments, really reflect on WTF you say and how it could truly affect someone. “Under my helmet, I am a human… A father. A son. This is sick. SMH,” he wrote.
Mattison is stepping in for Dalvin Cook, who joined the New York Jets after being released by the Vikings earlier this offseason. However, Mattison has not had the finest performance in his first two games as a starter.
What did Alexander Mattison’s stats look like in his first two games as starter?

In his first two starts as a starter, Alexander Mattison’s production total has been dismal, to say the least. He has amassed a mere 62 yards on 10 carries, with just 28 yards gained on eight touches during the game against the Eagles. Adding to his struggles on the field, he also had a fumble in that match.
With the dismissal of Davin Cook, the team showedย trust in Mattison based on his performancesย theย previous season. They expected him to scratch the surfaceย of his potential, but that hasn’t happened yet.
Mattison had a career-high of five touchdowns last season on 74 rush attempts. While serving as Cook’s backup, he accumulated a total of 283 yards as well.
As a team, the Vikings will need to regroup, aiming to break free from the current slump they find themselves in. Their quest for the first win of the season continues next week as they face the Los Angeles Chargers.
