Despite some struggles in the regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs, led by veteran head coach, Andy Reid have made it to the Super Bowl for 4th time in the last 5 years. They had significant road victories against the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional playoff and the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Round.
This was the first time the Chiefs played road playoff games since Patrick Mahomes joined them, but it did not create any roadblocks to winning the games. Mahomes’ playoff record in the postseason prevailed.
Nonetheless, the Chiefs have a slight concern before the Super Bowl battle against the San Francisco 49ers. Their wide receiver, Kadarius Toney has suffered an injury. As a result, his availability for the Super Bowl game is uncertain.
Speaking on the context, Andy Reid, the Chiefs’ head coach opened during his recent appearance on Sports Radio 810 WHB. The veteran head coach said that the WR was placed on the injury list. Reid said that they’ll look at how Toney does in practice before making a decision.
He’ll be back out there, and we’ll see how he does. He's been on the injury report, that's not made up.Andy Reid said on Sports Radio 810 WHB
Reid’s response came after Kadarius Toney did an Instagram live claiming that he had not been injured. He also accused the team of faking injury concerns.
The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a lot due to the wide receiver crisis in the league. Since the departure of the star receiver Tyreek Hill, the team failed to get the proper service of a receiver.
It was their tight end Travis Kelce who stepped up in big times. He became the main target for Patrick Mahomes in the absence of a star WR. In this context, if Toney ends up missing the Super Bowl, then the Chiefs will have some disadvantages.
Andy Reid’s defense has stepped up big time this season
With the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, the Chiefs are known for their offensive bulldozing mentality. However, this season proved to be different.
The offense struggled multiple times this season. The offensive inabilities kept the Chiefs on the back. Some analysts claimed that they would lose the postseason games due to the offensive problems.
Nonetheless, in the moment of crisis, the defense stepped up. The Chiefs’ defense is the second-best in the league in the 2023 season. No one has scored more than 30 points against them in the last two years. Even the explosive Ravens offense struggled against the Chiefs’ defense and only scored 10 points.
It is to be seen what the defense can do against the Niners in the title game. They played with perfection throughout the league, now they have one shot to go.
