Super Bowl LVIII was not one without drama for the Kansas City Chiefs. They emerged victorious over the San Francisco 49ers. However, the team struggled in the first half, and tempers flared along the sidelines as Travis Kelce nearly pushed Andy Reid to the turf. This incident happened after he was outraged that his HC did not put him in the game on a key red zone play. Isaiah Pacheco ended up fumbling the ball on the play, and the Chiefs lost possession of the ball.
Travis Kelce got a lot of backlash for his actions, but the duo made up quickly as they hugged it out towards halftime. Andy Reid cleared the air on the whole situation after the Chiefs won. This is what he said:
He came over and gave me a hug... he just wants to be on the field and he wants to play. There's nobody I get better than I get him. He's a competitive kid, and he loves to play. He makes me feel young.Andy Reid via ESPN
Travis Kelce apologized to Andy Reid for his actions in the heat of the moment. The big game will feature plenty of heated moments. Coach Reid only saw Kelce’s actions as such even though a huge outcry erupted on social media.
Reid understood true passion in a player. He knew that it was just that passion that took the form of aggression in Kelce at that moment because the team was scoreless and trailing early on. The tight end could not hold back either after the game and expressed his respect for his head coach.
Andy Reid has a high degree of respect for Travis Kelce’s passion towards football
Kelce can never fathom disrespecting Reid because without him, the NFL would probably never have heard of Travis Kelce. This is what Kelce said after the game.
He's one of the best leaders of men I've ever seen in my life... he's helped me a lot with that, with channeling that emotion, with channeling that passion. I owe my entire career to that guy and being able to kind of control how emotional I get and just love him.Travis Kelce on Andy Reid
Andy Reid drafted the tight end based on the trust he had in his brother Jason Kelce. It seems fair to say that the bet has paid off pretty well so far! When the incident happened, it enraged fans online. Some went as far as saying they no longer respected the tight end. It would be justified to think so after seeing that clip.
However, Andy Reid has been around hungry players who love to win. They love to get the chance to go out there and play. If they refuse a shot, it infuriates them, which is exactly what happened. Kelce was wrong in the way he vented his frustration but the duo spoke it out and understood that it was not a mark of disrespect on the part of the tight end. All is well that ends well!
