The San Francisco 49ers are currently undergoing a crisis of sorts in regards to their quarterback position. They 49ers traded away veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason, and former No.1 starter Trey Lance has failed to make the role his own.

Lance was the starter last season before he suffered an injury and had to be benched in favor of back-up quarterback Garoppolo, who in turn also succumbed to an injury. With their season at an important crossroad the onus fell onto the hands of rookie Brock Purdy to take over the starting quarterback role and he did so with aplomb.

Purdy led them to the NFC Championship in 2022/23 showing his true potential. However, things didn’t end well for the 23-year-old as he suffered a UCL tear during the marquee game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He has undergone surgery for the injury, and it is yet to be known whether he would be able to make a return to the NFL at the start of the 2023/24 season.

This has raised questions amidst the franchise, as to whether they need to rope in another quarterback of quality as their starting man for the upcoming season. According to leading sportscaster, Dan Patrick, the 49ers have shown interest in trading Baltimore Ravens quarterback, Lamar Jackson.

The former NFL MVP winner is also having a tough time negotiate a contract extension with the Ravens. The franchise has placed him on a franchise tag, enabling him to talk with other teams but the Ravens would be able to match their office sheet or decline the offer in exchange for two first round picks in the NFL draft next season.

Jackson has been at war with the Ravens throughout the end of the past season, not yet deciding on a massive guaranteed fee. However, if the 49ers decide on making a move for him, he undoubtedly remains one of the best in the league.

Even 49ers general manager, John Lynch hasn’t ruled the possibility of the franchise bringing him claiming that they would be looking at all options before making a decision on the subject.
