The NFL is focussing on strict cost-cutting at a time when it is generating more revenues. Last season, the audience saw desperate attempts by the league to advertise the presence of the pop singer Taylor Swift. It was nothing but trying to garner more revenues.

Amid this revenue generation, the NFL is also keeping an eye on cost reduction. A shocking revelation has come out from the Sports Business Journal. It noted that 60 out of 200 workers in the league have opted for voluntary buyouts. Among the sections, NFL Films has the highest buyout rate.

As per the news, 200 were offered the buyout. The employees who took it had to confirm before the first week of February. The league offered the employees a salary of three weeks for every year they served.

The employees were told back then:

We have defined the League’s strategic priorities and identified areas for significant growth and investment. Those areas -- such as international expansion, the growth of flag football, and the continued development of media and digital platforms -- will help shape the future of the game. And the internal operations -- how we operate, where we invest our capital, and the workforce -- must evolve to align with these strategic priorities to best position the League for continued success.
The employees were informed

However, on this particular story by SBJ, the NFL declined to comment. Multiple sources reported that the voluntary buyouts were the first step in its cost-cutting process. In the coming time, the league authority can take some more harsh steps to ensure revenues.

The NFL might terminate some employees

In an attempt to save more revenue, the NFL might have to go to extremes. According to NBC Sports, the league authority might terminate the contracts of some staff. It might come as a step to save more money.

The report from Sports Business Journal revealed that those 200 buyouts were just the beginning. It was not that the authority wanted to curb only 200 jobs. The report also revealed that in the next step, the authority will try to cut the payrolls of employees. The buyout was just the tip of the iceberg.

Surprisingly, the NFL garnered a high amount of revenue last season. On the day it announced the buyouts, the league claimed that it had garnered nearly $255.4 million in revenue per team.
