Ahead of the Atlanta Falcons‘ week 8 game against the Tennessee Titans, the Falcons’ head coach Arthur Smith made a shocking decision to bench their second-round quarterback Desmond Ridder in favor of their second-string QB Taylor Heinicke. The decision to bench Ridder was questioned by many people including Kurt Warner.
And now, Smith has shared a fiery response to Warner, claiming he doesn’t care what the former Los Angeles Rams QB has to say about his team. During a recent press conference, Smith was asked about Kurt Warner’s comments on how the Falcons head coach’s inability to accentuate his offense’s strength had held back the team.
I don’t care. I really don’t. Everybody has their opinions. He’s welcome to come down here to our meetings. I would actually embrace that. I’m sure he gets paid a lot of money. I could give a rat’s… whatever.Smith via The Athletic.
The Falcons head coach then sounded off on the Pro Football Hall of Famer and said that Warner’s talking like he knows everything despite being so far away from the team. Smith was referring to Warner’s breakdowns about his team’s offense.
I think sometimes people get a microphone and the further they are away (from the game), they feel they know everything. Maybe he can solve some of the world’s problems, too.
Kurt Warner shared many criticisms about Arthur Smith’s offense but he mainly had issues with the Falcons benching second-year QB Desmond Ridder. Warner seemingly feels Atlanta is making Ridder the scapegoat for Smith’s inability to run a good offensive scheme.
Arthur Smith excited about starting Taylor Heinicke
The Falcons shockingly benched Desmond Ridder last week in favor of Taylor Heinicke. They ended up losing their game, but it seems like Atlanta head coach Arthur Smith will continue with Taylor Heinicke as the starting QB.
During a recent episode of ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, the 3rd-year head coach Arthur Smith shared that he and his team are fired up about Heinicke starting for them.
However, the Falcons fans on social media were not excited about the news. Nonetheless, it seems like the Atlanta-based football team will rely on Heinicke’s abilities going forward.
In his second start of the season, Taylor Heinicke will try to lead `the Falcons to a victory against the Minnesota Vikings, who they are scheduled to face this Sunday in their week 9 matchup.
