The New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner is regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the league right now. He was ranked number two in the list of best CBs in the league as voted by NFL executives, scouts, coaches, and players. However, the former New England Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel doesn’t believe Gardner is a top cornerback and is being hyped by the New York media.
“The New York media will take your career to another level,” wrote Samuel while quote tweeting the list of best cornerbacks in the league. The list voted by top NFL coaches and players had Sauce Gardner as the second-best cornerback in the league, ranking only behind the Denver Broncos defensive back Patrick Surtain II.
Samuel went on to claim that the Seattle Seahawks rookie CB Tariq Woolen had a better season in 2022 than the Jets‘ Sauce Gardner. “For the record, Tariq had a better rookie season then Sauce they both played outstanding but what in the hell do y’all be watching? Y’all are highly influenced by the media not facts,” wrote Samuel.
Both Woolen and Sauce had remarkable rookie campaigns. But Sauce received a Pro Bowl nod and also was named to the first-team All-Pro squad. Moreover, Gardner also ended up winning the 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Gardner was undeniably one of the best cornerbacks in the league in 2022 and Samuel, diminishing the Jets CB’s successful campaign, has upset a lot of people.

Sauce Gardner hits back at Asante Samuel
Following Asante Samuel’s bold claim about how the New York media hypes up Sauce Gardner, the All-Pro cornerback replied to the former Patriot and told him to relax.
“Damnn you been on my one shit hella lately [three laughing emojis] You gots to relax…. Me personally, I never been the hating type,” wrote Gardner as a reply to Samuel.
Asante Samuel, the Patriots’ fourth-round pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, played 11 seasons in the NFL with three different teams. During his successful career, he registered 51 interceptions as a cornerback. He received 4 Pro Bowl nods and 1 first-team All-Pro recognition in his career and also helped Tom Brady and the Patriots to win two Super Bowls back in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
It should be noted that his son Asante Samuel Jr. is currently playing for the Los Angeles Chargers and is one of the top cornerbacks in the league. However, Samuel Jr. failed to break into the top 10 in the list of best CBs in the NFL voted by coaches and players.
